For us, the Basic Sciences team, with more than 70 professors and civil employees, it is very pleasing to be able to give you to the warmest welcome to our Web page and, hopefully, to our campus.
We are a group of professionals with a solid preparation and are sincerely committed to the education and the investigation in mathematics, physics, statistics, chemistry and biology. Most of us have postgraduate studies in our fields of specific interest, obtained in recognized national and international universities.
Even though the creation of our department is relatively recent (1998), our experience is ample and constitutes a guarantee of firm academic responsibility. In higher education, our greatest effort is dedicated to the formation in the sciences of all the students registered within an academic program at Universidad del Norte. Additionally, we have also initiated some programs of our own which will gradually be widening its services. Our infrastructure of the physics, chemistry, and mathematics and biology labs has been updated with state-of-the-art technologies of computer science, serving as a valuable support to all the courses in the area.
In investigation, our groups are recent but very dynamic and with great potential in educational areas: such as, sciences, condensed matter physics, computer physics, chemical synthesis, human biology, differential equations and algebra. In extension services, we are especially interested in contributing to the improvement of science education in primary and secondary schools, and at the same time we are committed to several activities of scientific spreading through different the various mass media.
We maintain active and promising academic relations with several of the best universities of the country and in the exterior; we have an explicit regional vocation and we promote the cooperation with institutions of higher education of the Colombian Caribbean. With a warm welcome to this website, I also, in representation of the Basic Sciences team, express a warm invitation to visit our campus and take advantage of the multiple study, investigation and service opportunities that we offer.
