English Version Specialization in Occupational Health
Decree 614 of March 14, 1984 and Resolution 1016 of March, 1989 demanded that employers organize Occupational Health Programs. Under these laws it was necessary for organizations to begin studying their environments and monitor risk factors and discover and teach ways of preventing injury. The laws also stated that each organization needed to create a permanent sector within the organization to guarantee the continuity of attention.
The Universidad del Norte responded to the regulated requirements by offering this specialization in Occupational Health. This program prepares professionals to perform in preventive, welfare activities and Management of Programs in Occupational Health, thus contributing to the fulfillment to the improvement of the quality of life and the increase of local and regional productivity of the country.
Specialization in Family Health
The Ministry of Social Protection as well as the Associations of Medicine Faculties (ASCOFAME), the Association of Nursing Faculties (ACOFAEN) and the Association of Dentistry Faculties (ACFO) promote the development of postgraduate formation programs and benefit of family health services, taking into considering that family is the basic nucleus of helath care.
Family is considered as the main institution where individuals socialize and receive their educative bases that allocate a successful biological, psychological and social development. Family is also the main source of support and security during their adult life. A great part of risks and risk factors for different diseases is generated within the family and we cannot forget the therapeutic role family offers when one of the members is sick.
In spite of the importance of family, the Atlantic Coast does not have sufficient human resources because educational practices have been geared towards the individual practice.
Considering everything previously mentioned, and the demands of health care providers Universidad del Norte offers the Specialization in Family Health. This program gives the health care individual the scientific, social and humanistic foundations which will allow them to offer integral, continuous and human attention in family health. The program also promotes the technical and administrative capabilities necessary to allow the health care providers to offer consultancy and assistance in family services.
The Specialization in Family Health uses theoretical and practical contents, focusing on investigation, management of family services, family care, teamwork and the capacity of leadership and responsibility for the integral attention of the family.
The program wishes to form a professional specialists in Pediatrics with abilities and skills to offer integral attention to the child from Prenatal to the end of adolescence, through promotion, attention and rehabilitation; considering socio-economic, environmental, biological, and psycho emotional aspects.

Specialization in Ophthalmology
Ophthalmology is a medical specialty that is characterized by a high dependency of state-of-the-art technology. Ophthalmology is the branch of medicine that deals with the prevention and the treatment of ocular diseases. It requires a continuous update in latest techniques, technologies and theories so that the specialist excels and their patients receive the best possible attention, leaving an indelible track in the well-being of our population.
The profile of each one of our future specialists in ophthalmology must reflect all the previous, so that being a graduate of the specialty of Universidad del Norte can be synonymous with quality. The program prepares specialists of high quality in Ophthalmology who have a high ethical, academic and scientific formation, to confront the challenges of modern Ophthalmology, which in addition contribute to the improvement of the knowledge of ocular pathologies in our region through investigation.
Specialization in Health Services Management
In a process similar to the road traveled by many developed or moderately industrialized countries, Colombia is still experiencing the effects of the reform of the National Health System, which began in December of 1993. Since then, Manager, Planners and Politicians are immersed in this dynamics of change and they see how, day to day, the tools of their task and the horizons of their organizations transform, in the middle of a very relative climate of security and confidence.
Colombia begun the changing process of its General System of Social Security in Health (SGSSS) with the intention to obtain two primary targets, universal and egalitarian, access to health services for all its citizens with regard to their needs and not to their payment capacity, as well as a greater efficiency in the production of health services and in the use of the resources of the system. With this new system of financing and provision of services, and with the new policies mainly organized around decentralization, the role of the national government goes from being the only origin of resources, to being the general coordinator and regulator of the system, separating to a great extent from its habitual activity of inexhaustible supplier. Our Specialization in Health Services Management is constituted then as an alternative to find an answer to the aspirations and intentions to modernize the institutions and organizations of the health sector, and to offer services with greater qualitative dimensions, not only from the point of view of the supplier but from the user's perspective.
Specialization in Quality and Health Auditing Management
Health Services auditing is an invaluable tool that allows the evaluation of diverse factors within assisting and administrative processes to control the meeting of objectives, norms and established procedures, which will lead to the improvement of the quality of health services.
It's important to point out that the growth, positioning and permanence of institutions that integrate the General System in Social Security Health will depend, essentially, on the quality of the services offered to the users, which makes it necessary that processes, methods and systems be managed under the principles of the Total Quality philosophy.

Specialization in Molecular Biomedicine
The dynamics generated in the world-wide economy, the adoption of paradigms in the economic and social development and the unquestionable positioning of Science and Technology in the productive sector, forces the professionals of Health to update their information and its formation to be competent and competitive. For that reason the professional and the expert as well as the clinical medicine specialist require training in natural sciences.
In order to take advantage of the opportunities that the present and future scene offers, it is required that the individual be highly qualified, with dominion and abilities of action on knowledge, since the advantages in the productive sector do not reside in the possession of raw material or geographic attributes (capital, earth and work) but reside instead in the dominion of knowledge.
The accelerated development of knowledge in the biomedical area has allowed application of techniques and procedures of molecular Biology, molecular and genetic engineering, in the diagnosis and the treatment of multiple diseases in humans.
