I would like to give you a warm welcome to the School of Law of Universidad del Norte of Barranquilla, Colombia, and to our Law program, dedicated to offering services of formation of quality in Law, with the purpose of satisfying the necessities of the citizens and the society of the Caribbean Coast of Colombia and, why not, the world.

We were created as a result of the vision and institutional planning, to serve the community, and our main function is to provide a demanding program of legal education to students with excellent academic and personal qualities. Thus, a lawyer of Universidad del Norte considers not only the legal norms and forms to interpret, analyze and debate the law: they also take into account the value systems that justify and support the law, and understands its relation with other disciplines in the search for justice.

Also, you can stay updated with our services and programs and know the new features in Uninorte that we are creating for you on a day-to-day basis.

It is also an honor for me to inform you that in addition to being granted Institutional Accreditation to the University in 2003, our Law program received the highest quality accreditation on behalf of the Ministry of National Education by means of Resolution 1360 of May 20 of 2004. Another example of our academic excellence is our students obtained first nationally on the Examinations of Quality of Higher Education (ECAES) administered by the Colombian Institute of Promotion of Superior Education - ICFES in November of 2004.

On the other hand, responding to the regional, national and international necessities, the Law Program has made important changes in its curricular structure to offer graduates a stronger basic formation, as well as the possibility of developing competences for communication, investigation, teamwork, problem resolution and critical analysis, which is indispensable for the excellence for labor performance, in the country or in the exterior.

We have an investigation group that has initiated vigorous activities nationally as well as internationally, with aspects like public law, business law, penitentiary law, labor law. In addition to those we have a group which focuses on conflicts and one in political science. All this supports, with its entire scientific rigor, the Law Program as well as the postgraduate programs.

At the moment we have eight (8) specialized programs, with excellent professors, open to, not only students in Barranquilla but from other cities of the country and abroad. Our Law program depends on an excellent practicum center. It is the Legal Consulting Office that has been constituted as fundamental support in the integral formation of our lawyers. This office is the space in which our students go to develop practical abilities in law, providing at the same time legal services to people in need in structured and supervised scenarios. Thus, the program fulfills the institutional mission of communitarian work, simultaneously preparing our students for globalization, taking care of the necessities that the XXI Century will bring.

Finally, as the first graduate in reaching the maximum academic distinction of the Division, I can only invite to get acquainted with all the information of our programs and projects and to experience of studying Law at Universidad del Norte.
