Mission

In accordance with the guiding principles and aims established upon its creation, the Universidad del Norte has as its mission the well-rounded education of students undertaking studies in higher education as well as the continuous contribution to the harmonious development of the country and society, especially the Atlantic Coast of Colombia.

As an institution of higher education, the Universidad del Norte fulfills its commitment to higher education by offering undergraduate studies, advanced and continuing education studies, and postgraduate studies (including Doctorate, Master's and specialized courses) all of which are characterized with outstanding social and humanistic content with a great emphasis in science and research in order to meet the growing changes of technological and scientific progress as well as the continuing needs of this region and those of the rest of the country.

The institution seeks to educate its students integrally, becoming independent, innovative and analytical persons with solid ethical principles who can actively contribute as critical, honest, pragmatic and responsible leaders in the processes of social, economic, political and cultural development of the community.

The university seeks qualified professors with high academic vocation who utilize a variety of teaching methods which are adequate and advanced for contemporary university education including educational technology as learning and teaching tools.

The university will be present in the community through all its academic functions and services and expects its directors, administration, professors, students and staff alike to commit to life-long learning, analysis and investigation of problems encountered in all dimensions of development (social, economic, political, cultural and academic) and at all community levels: local, regional and national.

Authorities

DIRECTIVE COUNCIL
Represented by the members of the founding institutions that wrote the constitution act for the Foundation and an active member, with its respective substitute, chosen by the Council amongst the graduated members of the University.

PRESIDENT
The first executive and academic authority of the institution and the legal representation of the Universidad del Norte.

ACADEMIC COUNCIL
The President's advisory board, which is in charge of coordinating and guarding of the effective fulfillment of the educational objectives of the Institution, so that the best academic level of education is demanded and maintained.

DIVISION DEAN
The person in charge of the administration of the teaching resources of the academic programs and each division and of the coordination of activities from the departments that are included within.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR
The person in charge of the stable operation and administration of the curriculum of the academic department that he or she is in charge of and of the attention of the students who attend the program.

HEAD OF DEPARTMENT
The person in charge of the administration of teaching and compatible investigation in one or several disciplines.

TEACHER
The educator that takes responsibility to successfully fulfill the curriculum of its subject; the main manager of the formation of the students and the development of their knowledge in the respective discipline.
