The School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Universidad del Norte contributes to the integral formation, especially the students, deepening in social and humanistic thought, and in the true historical sense that each person must have about themself, their profession and the world in which they live.

Humanistic and social studies are indispensable for all the sciences and professions in life. This is why our Division has the great responsibility to provide, in all the curricula of the different programs that Universidad del Norte offers relevant content matter related to the humanistic and social formation, in order to promote the interpersonal reflection of the diverse academic units. It is our goal to construct interdisciplinary dialogue as a necessary to complement theoretical and methodological fortification of the particular disciplines; to contribute to anthropological explanations, that is to give sense and purpose to the academic task; to motivate consciousness and analysis of ethical implications that occur in professions, and to promote the reflection of professional work in a determined social-political context.

The Humanities and Social Sciences Division also develops specific tasks, like investigations, in the Human Research Developing Center, CIDHUM, the only one of its kind in the area of social sciences in Colombia and recognized by Colciencias as an excellence center. We also have six scientific groups of investigation which are equally recognized.

Within the scope of social sciences and humanities, the Division offers undergraduate programs in Psychology, Social Communication, and International Relations; the Masters in Psychology and Social Development, a doctorate in Psychology and twelve specialized programs. We have developed a vast extension program related to the world of work, the social and cultural world, which provides an effective presence in the community of the Colombian Caribbean region and the country.
