
The Economics program of Universidad del Norte was designed as a response to the high demand in the Caribbean region for professionals capable of reorienting the economic politics focused on determining a solution to the challenges of medium and long term development. Some of the most important issues at study are unemployment, poverty, unequal distribution of income, education, health, and infrastructure.
Our objective is to form an integral and highly competitive professional in regional, national and international markets, capable of finding alternative ways for the economical situation in the region and the unique problems of a country like our own.
Fields of Actions: The economist has an ample action field. You will find professionals with this formation in the public sector, the private sector, nongovernmental organizations and in economic investigation and consulting.
An economist is present in all those institutions where decisions from economic policy, planning and consultant's office in national, regional or local level are taken. It is possible also to work in directive and management positions in companies of the private sector, analyzing the behavior of these within the economic sector or union to which they belong and its evolution as opposed to others. Finally, he exerts a fundamental role in the decision making as a consultant or external adviser.
