ANECDOTE
LATIN AMERICAN STUDENTS MEETING
AN EXPERIENCE OF EFFORT AND COMMITMENT

"Nobody is perfectly happy unles he is willing to give his life for what he is doing"
Chinese proverb

" The Psychology program of our university has been consolidated as one of the first in a nation-wide level ". That is what we usually highlight about our work.

However, it is not only the academic quality that is renowned, but also the commitment assumed by quite a lot of students in their educational process.

Thus, at the beginning of September 1998, students of almost all the semesters got together according to the reasons mentioned above, and with the purpose of getting to know 5 papers in diffrerent areas of application of our subject.

Bogotá was for five days the epicenter of the Meeting of Undergraduate Psychology Students iofLatin America, through the management of the national and Latin American students associations. There were many obstacles that we had to face, such as the difficulties to assume the costs and the interruption of our classes which was to be expected.

However, those limitations did not hinder the passionate intentions from representing our university in the city of Santa Fé de Bogotá. As Shakespeare said: " the sin , dear, is not in our stars, but in the fact that we are under them"

So we assumed the challenge to organize an event where the musical groups, contests, and comic sketces contributed to raise some of the funds needed under the name of "Congresotón". It is necessary to emphasize that personally I was impressed by the diligence and the commitment of all my fellow students, which invalidated the insulting names by which students are usually called, such as passive and mediocre.

Parrallel to the effort made by my fellow students and me, it is important to highlight the invaluable collaboration of the Dean of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences José Amar Amar, Phd. , and of the President of the University Jesús Ferro Bayona, Phd., through the Planning Office, since without their help we would not have reached our goals.

The Meeting was not the place for speeches, on the contrary it was a nexperience where we had to double our efforts in order to refine our papers and to verify the last details. Once and again , we had to exchange the drafts in order to present a final satisfactory version that represented a lot of effort, encouragement, discouragement and even tears to some students.

The experience of sharing with students from other universities is enormously educational . At the Meeting three elements that enrich our knowledge were present : travels, books and the people.

Finally, the success of the participation in the Meeting of Psychology Students of Lain America through the presentation of the papers, wothout exception consolidated our name as a an academoc program at national and international level and tit strengthened our brotherly hours confirming once again that "we are constantly commited to the way to excelence".
