Mission Mission

Following the principles, values and objectives guiding Universidad del Norte Foundation since its creation, it has the mission of holistically forming the individual at the level of higher education and contribute through its institutional presence in the community for balanced development of society and the country, especially the Caribbean region.

The Foundation accomplishes this educational task at the undergraduate and advanced level and is characterized for its wide social and humanistic content and emphasis on scientific investigative foundations to face the challenges of the advancement of science and the social needs of the region and country.

The institution aims at developing its students as thinking, analytical individuals with solid ethical principles and innovative ideas that enable them to participate in an active, entrepreneurial, responsible, honest, critical and pragmatic way while contributing to the social, economic, political and cultural development of the community.

The University strives to recruit qualified professors with a deep academic vocation and is determined to have the most adequate and advanced teaching, research and extension methods in contemporary education. So that science, technology, humanities and arts will continue to be the distinctive institutional pillars for the formation of students.

Universidad del Norte promotes and supports its leaders, professors, students and alumni to continue studying, analyzing and investigating the concrete problems of the community where they belong.

Since its origin our institution has been committed to social, economic, political, environmental and cultural development and social responsibility within society and academia.

HISTORY HISTORY

Universidad del Norte was founded in 1966 in Barranquilla, Colombia. It is a higher education institution that has characterized itself as one that meets the needs of Colombia´s Caribbean Region through its community relations, deep sense of ethics, transparency and excellence in its academic, extension and research activities.

Universidad del Norte is a non-profit foundation established by a group of local businessmen. The business leaders, led by Mr. Karl C. Parrish, represented by the National Industrialists Association (ANDI), the Barranquilla Foundation (today known as Foundation Mario Santo Domingo), and the Colombian Institute of Administration (INCOLDA), signed the act that made the Universidad del Norte a center for higher education. On July 11th, 1966, under the presidency of Julio Muvdi, the University started its academic activities in the Prado neighborhood. At the time, it had 58 students and ten professors for Business Administration and Engineering programs. Today the University has more than twelve thousand undergraduate and graduate students, a large number of academic programs supported by a solid faculty and research system that makes great contributions towards the development and growth of the Colombian Caribbean Region. This is done on a biodiversity campus that boasts state-of-the-art technology that offers the necessary conditions for the comprehensive development of our entire university community. 

Today Uninorte, as it goes by, is one of the most important and prestigious universities in Colombia, achieving very important national and international accreditations in various academic circles. With a large offering of undergraduate studies, specializations, master's degrees and doctoral degrees, as well as important continuous education programs, social outreach and impact in the community, Universidad del Norte makes a great contribution to the Caribbean Region.
