The Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the Universidad del Norte is seeking exceptional candidates at all career levels from all areas related to computational mathematics. An ideal candidate for this position works in any area of the realm of mathematics that develops and applies computational techniques in optimization, operations research, big data, statistics, probability, financial mathematics, PDEs, stochastic control, game theory, or any other related area. Successful candidates are expected to publish high-quality and high-impact research in top-tier journals, to attract significant external funding and to teach undergraduate and graduate mathematics courses in both Spanish and English.

A typical applicant will hold B.SC. in mathematics, and a Ph.D. in mathematics or any closely related area. In addition to strong research credentials, as measured by publication record, established or potential funding levels, and other academic recognition, candidates are expected to provide evidence or potential for high quality teaching in undergraduate and graduate-level mathematics and statistics courses. For senior applicants, evidence of robust external funding and interdisciplinary research are essential, while evidence of engagement with national or international disciplinary organizations, and connections with industrial, government, and/or other professional sectors, are desirable and appreciated.

The program of Geology at the Universidad del Norte (Barranquilla – Colombia), invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in Geosciences. 

The candidate must have a degree in geology with a PhD and relevant experience in the areas of geophysics or tectonics. It is preferable to have experience in marine environments.

The candidate should show a strong publication record as well as to have relevant teaching experience. S/he will be expected to establish a research program in geophysics or marine geology as well as to participate in teaching activities within the department. Most of the teaching duties will be carry out in Spanish.

iii) A statement of research (one page) including a plan for developing research activities in geophysics or marine geology, applied to Colombia.

vi) Applicants should demonstrate English language proficiency (if English is not their first tongue). TOEFL or similar test scores should be submitted with the application. Level B2 or higher is required.

The position salary will be assigned on the basis of the candidate’s curriculum based on Uninorte’s payroll scale, which is very competitive for the Colombian standards. 

The position contracts is renewed annually during three years and leading to full tenure afterwards. The selected candidate must start activities on January 10th, 2020.
