Spanish on the Go is an online program designed for international students who want to learn practical Spanish before traveling to a Spanish-speaking country.
The course offers an accessible and communicative introduction to the language through the study and practice of everyday expressions, vocabulary, grammar, and cultural information from different Spanish-speaking countries.
Students develop the language skills needed to communicate in common travel situations, including introducing themselves, asking for information, shopping, ordering food, describing places, and requesting directions.

Estimated duration: 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the selected schedule

Objective
Target Audience
- International students who want to begin learning Spanish or improve their basic communication skills while preparing to travel to a Spanish-speaking country
Methodology
The course integrates language and culture through current foreign-language teaching methodologies.
Classes provide exposure to authentic spoken and written materials and focus on practical communication in real-life situations. Activities are completed individually, in pairs, and in groups to maximize opportunities for interaction.
Students practice Spanish through communicative tasks related to travel, daily life, and cultural interaction. Course content may be adjusted according to the needs, interests, and characteristics of each group.
Course Content
The course includes practical language for:
- Introducing yourself and exchanging personal information
- Expressing intentions and immediate needs
- Describing places and everyday situations
- Shopping and asking about products and prices
- Ordering food and drinks at restaurants
- Asking for and understanding directions
- Requesting information about transportation and destinations
- Communicating in hotels, stores, restaurants, and other travel settings
- Using basic vocabulary and grammatical structures
- Understanding cultural practices in Spanish-speaking countries
The 60-hour option provides additional opportunities to expand vocabulary, reinforce grammatical structures, and develop greater confidence through extended speaking, listening, reading, and writing practice.
How to Enroll
- Complete the online registration form available on the website.
- Upload the following documents in PDF format:
- Identification document
- Visa or study permit, when applicable
- Wait for the official admission confirmation and payment instructions.
Submitting the registration form does not constitute automatic admission to the program. Applicants must wait for confirmation of admission.
Since this program is delivered online, a Colombian study visa or Permiso de Integración y Desarrollo —PID— is not required to participate from abroad.
Assessment Method
At the end of the course, students receive a final numerical grade.
The assessment process takes into account:
- Academic performance throughout the course
- Participation in individual, pair, and group activities
- Development of practical communication skills
- Completion of assignments established by the instructor
- Attendance at a minimum of 80% of class sessions
Tuition and Payment
Students may choose from the following options:
30-hour course: COP $1,291,900
60-hour course: Two 30-hour modules at COP $1,291,900 each
Once admitted, students will receive information by email regarding the available payment methods and channels.
The program does not offer financing.
Certification
General Terms and Conditions
- A minimum of 4 students is required to open a group.
- The Language Institute at Universidad del Norte reserves the right to cancel or postpone the start of the course depending on enrollment numbers.
- The Institute may make changes to course content or teaching staff when necessary.
- No partial or full refunds will be issued to students who withdraw after the course has begun or who fail to meet the certification requirements.
- Enrollment may not be transferred or deferred to a future course offering.
The Instituto de Idiomas reserves the right to postpone or cancel programs that do not have the minimum numbers of participants established, up to 24 hours in advanced. In case of cancellation the corresponding money will be refunded.
